Intent

At Broadwindsor School it is our intent at all children should work as young Linguists to become confident in speaking, writing and listening growing in understanding across a range of contexts that they would encounter if travelling to France and other French speaking countries meeting native speakers. We aim to introduce the children to a diverse selection of famous people and culture from the Francophone world.

We aim to help children grow into curious, confident and reflective language learners and to provide them with a foundation that will equip them for further language studies at secondary school.

Implementation

French at Broadwindsor is taught weekly as half an hour sessions and follows the Kapow scheme of work: there is a clear progression of skills and techniques to be covered starting in Key Stage Two where the subject is statutory. However, we do provide opportunities for Early Years and KS1 pupils to be exposed to other languages and learn for example basic greetings as part of register routines. 

Impact

We see the impact of our ambitious, knowledge rich- curriculum through discussions as a staff, regular assessment of the children’s work and discussions with pupils listening to pupil voice.
