At Broadwindsor School it is our intent that all children should work as young Historians to build on their knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live now, what it was like in the past and how things have changed. We will ensure that all our children have the opportunities to ask questions and think about and understand the cause of different events in history. They will apply their historical knowledge and skills to find, organise, select, analyse and interpret primary and secondary sources of information.
When our Young Historians leave Broadwindsor School our aim is that they have:
Our young historians are taught and inspired by the high quality teaching of our ambitious, knowledge rich curriculum. This curriculum is designed for all children to access and is taught through an enquiry based, topic approach where children are given opportunities to use their historical skills to answer the key topic questions. Our curriculum focuses on learning about, and investigating, specific historical events in depth to ensure that children have a deep knowledge and understanding of these significant events. Every year groups’ learning builds upon the historical knowledge and skills they have learnt previously.
We see the impact of our curriculum though regular assessment of the children’s work and listening to pupil voice. It is our hope to see that all children in the school will be able to speak confidently about their history learning, skills and knowledge.
