Intent

At Broadwindsor School it is our intent that all children should work as Young Musicians to enjoy and develop their skills in singing, performing and composing, and provide them with opportunities to perform in front of an audience both within and outside of school. We follow the Kapow scheme of work which has a clear sequence of progression of skills. In Y2/3/4, our children also benefit from the support of a visiting music tutor from Dorset Music and learn how to play the yukulele; the performance is an absolute delight!

Performed and listened to a range of music from different eras, cultures and genre

• Evaluated and reviewed the music they have heard and performed, confidently sharing their own opinions
• Learnt to sing and to use their voices
• Created and compose music both individually and as part of a group
• Learnt a musical instrument
• Used technology in their music making
• Explored how music is created, produced and communicated using the musical elements of pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
